I have two of my sites that do tend to fluctuate when Google is updating, sometimes for up to 3 or 4 days the PR will bounce between 2 and 4 with a norm of 3... I'm not one to really be particular with backlinks but I do think that if someone backlinks to you it can affect your backlink numbers? I'm not certain on that though.
