I've never used Java on my own websites and haven't a clue where and how to get started. Anyone able to point me in the direction of some simple instructions?

Huh? You mean javascript? They're two different things....

If you read that article, you're probably more confused now than you were before, so lemme make it simple for you. Forget Java. Try using some simple javascripts, just so you get a feel of how to use them. Creating a javascript is another matter altogether. Best leave that for some other time, when you're kinda free ( like between jobs and looking to hone up on your skills to get a job )

Okay, I knew it was going to be a big job but not quite as big as that. Maybe I should just wait until I retire, but by then they would have thought up something far more complicated to replace it!

You are correct Jipdog. Every year it seems like something new. Sometimes you are better off just seeing if there is something you can use online instead of trying to create it yourself. Especially if requires "all" of your time. I am all for learning new things, but sometimes it can be a bit much. Good luck! Sorry, I don't have a clue...just trying to give support.

Just use free scripts! I didn't bother with it anymore. It' hard for me to learn that language so I'm moving on to PHP.

Go to this page http://javascript.internet.com/ You can just use the scripts there if you want.

You can get Java scripts in many places online at no charge, or you can choose to pay for your scripts, or even create you own (not recommended). it really will depend on what you are looking to do on your website and what you want to be able to achieve.

If you want to use java then Applets would be the first choice especially making a online filemanager & all-applets helps there. Applets are something like macromedia flash embedded to html.

If u need server side programming using java JSP & many open source framework exists.
