New Blog Design

The urge for good design is the same as the urge to go on living. - Harry Bertoia

I’ve been working on an upgrade to the web design company directory and this design was intended to launch with the upgrade, but it’s been taking too long to complete the development and the blog was really hurting in the previous design.  So for now, this design will only be on the blog and I’ll get the directory upgraded as soon as I can.

The design was created by the extremely talented Evan Agee of Agee Design.  Evan was an employee of mine at Auction Floor, Inc. (which we both left last summer) and I’m extremely happy to have collaborated with him on this design.  I really look forward to having it up on the directory as well.

It’s not a 100% complete yet, but I’ve got some client work I’ve got to get done this weekend.  The sidebar in particular needs a little focus.  That said, what do you think so far?  What’s good?  What needs work?

I haven’t seen the old style, but I like the look. Very crisp and clear. I browsed your blog a bit and it’s very forgiving on the eye. Very nice!
One point of critique though… There’s no posted-on date anywhere. I know that this technically isn’t part of the styling, but of the content, but I really like knowing the date of a post I am reading… (like, is it a couple of weeks or a couple of years old?)

Thanks, Ben! The old design can still be seen on the directory here: http://www.xemion.com (for now, upgrade coming in a few weeks).

I’ve gone back and forth around the date. On one hand, I only post about once a week right now so the dates are kind of embarrassing and don’t really apply to anything I say anyways - but I am like you, I always look for them.

Blogs are a must on all sites especially any site that offers resources for others. It seems a natural progression that you have added a blog. Well done.It will probably be the best decision for the site.
